Calculate the score needed on a final
Enter your current grade before the final, the final’s share of the overall course and your target. With the final weight expressed as a fraction, the required score is (target − current × (1 − weight)) ÷ weight. Your current grade must already be normalized to 100%.
A worked example
With a current grade of 88%, a final worth 40% and a target of 90%, you need (90 − 88 × 0.60) ÷ 0.40 = 93%. Switch to the known-score mode to check that a final score of 93% produces a course grade of 90%.
Read unusual results carefully
A required score above 100% is above the ordinary maximum. A zero or negative requirement means your target is already secured if the remaining assumptions hold. A final worth 0% cannot change the grade; a final worth 100% is the whole course.
Required scores are rounded upward to the displayed precision. Targets use the raw course percentage, even when you choose a letter-grade cutoff. This calculator handles one final assessment, not retakes, grade replacement or multi-part finals.
